This lecture will review our current understanding of subclinical bacteriuria versus urinary tract infections. It will explore how to differentiate between these two clinical entities, whether treatment is always indicated and the new guidelines for treatment of urinary tract infections with consideration for antimicrobial choice and reducing the risk of development of antimicrobial resistance.
