Pharmaceutical and Environmental Stewardship: How to improve the sustainability impacts of veterinary pharmaceutical usage

This session will explore the environmental sustainability impacts of pharmaceuticals and related medical supplies on water, air, soil, climate change, and biodiversity. Two specific topics will be reviewed in more detail, including:

1) anesthetic gases, best practices for usage and a recent pilot of new recapture technology that decreases climate change impacts

2) antimicrobial usage and best practices for responsible use and disposal to reduce environmental impacts, including a pioneering study of antimicrobial purchasing patterns. 

Learnings from Mars Veterinary Health’s sustainability initiatives will be incorporated and practical guidance on best practices will be shared.
