Principles of Transfusion Medicine

This lecture will provide participants with a strong foundation in the principles of small animal transfusion medicine including: blood type systems, donor selection, pre-transfusion diagnostics, transfusion administration, and recognition and treatment of transfusion reactions. Due to the increased interest and availability of in-house diagnostics and blood products in private practice, the role of the veterinary technician in transfusion medicine will be stressed.
